Illinois Valley Industries was the recipient of a $5,000 grant made possible through a partnership between the Community Foundation of Grundy County and the Disability Resource Center in Joliet.

The grant allowed IVI staff to overhaul curriculum materials and to add needed technology in two Community Day programs that serve more than 45 clients aged 22 to 72, as well as the Community Employment program that serves the public and IVI clients.

Materials purchased included written materials, instructional videos, iPads and apps. The Attainment curriculum used in the Community Day programs focuses on support of healthy lifestyles, feelings, living independently, personal care, community exploration and life and safety skills, while the Community Employment books and videos offer learning for the clients as well as the community employment specialist.

The employment curriculum will allow specialists to better serve those who wish to enter the workforce with the assistance of IVI with continued education on current trends and topics in the employment world, and can also be used in Job Club classes taught twice a month. Without this grant, IVI would not have been able make the purchase and incorporation of these materials and technology a reality.

IVI provides support and guidance to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Grundy County.
