What amenities and services does Grundy County need for our senior citizens to lead full and productive retirements? What would you as a senior like to see in our community?
Two “Age in Place” experts will be in Morris on October 1st help answer these questions and give guidance to our community’s leaders.
The event is “Challenges of the Future: Is Grundy County a Retirement-Friendly Community?” and will be held on Wednesday, October 1st, from 4:00-6:00 pm at the Living Water Church, 118 E. Jefferson, Morris (old Morris movie theater). The event is being organized by the Community Foundation of Grundy County.
Guest speakers will be Dr. Lisa Hollis-Sawyer, Gerontology Program Coordinator at Northeastern Illinois University, and Lucia Jones, Executive Director of the Northeastern Illinois Area Agency on Aging.
“We have a number of topic- and age-specific networks in Grundy County (children, business & education, planning officials, non-profits) but we’re missing a network of agencies who serve our county’s senior citizens, so we’ve begun convening one,” explained Julie Buck. “We first met in July. Now we’ll meet again on September 18th and then host this event on October 1st to jump-start the brainstorming part of the network with the goal of building partnerships to identify existing resources and strategies to fill service gaps. Convening stakeholders like this helps us be strategic about our grantmaking to improve our county’s quality of life.”
The next meeting of the Grundy Senior Network is Thursday, September 18th, at 1:00 pm at the Grundy County Administration Center, 1320 Union Street, in Morris. Agencies and organizations who serve seniors are all invited to attend.
